President Muhammadu Buhari Commissions Lekki Deep Sea Port

In what could be best described as a major step towards the actualization of the proposed Lekki Deep Sea Port, President Muhammadu Buhari was in Lagos on Thursday 29th of March, 2018, to Commission and lay a foundation stone for the New Lekki Deep Sea Port, the first Deep Sea Port in the country.

The Lekki Deep Sea Port, a multi-purpose Sea Port at the heart of the Lagos Free Trade Zone, will be one of the most modern ports in West Africa, offering enormous support to the burgeoning commercial operation across Nigeria and the entire West African region when completed.

The Sea Port when completed will be one of the deepest in West Africa with 16.5-meter water depth and one of the most modern, efficient ports in sub-Saharan Africa with capacity to berth larger vessels thereby making Lagos the trans-shipment hub in West Africa.

Built on more than 90 hectares of land, the facility is estimated to gulp about $15 billion and is slated to be completed in 2020. The Lekki Deep Seaport will be equipped with the best infrastructure and terminal services to attract and maintain large volume of shipping line customers. Facilities at the port will include well-designed marine infrastructure, container, dry bulk and liquid terminals, making it a truly multi-purpose port

With the commissioning of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the developmental activities expected within the Lekki Free Trade Zone Ibeju Lekki is going on as planned. Located within the Lekki Free Trade Zone is the Dangote Refinery and Fertilizer Plant, Lekki International Airport
